Making Fabric Journals With Mary Richardson

Mary is a retired educator who still loves to teach…but instead of children, she now enjoys teaching adults and sharing what she has learned in a number of areas. She learned to sew from her mother but is largely self-taught to quilt. Not needing any large quilts and wanting projects that wouldn’t take a long time to complete, Mary began experimenting with textiles and making art quilts. Her passion in recent years has been bookbinding. She often makes her own bookcloth to add uniqueness to her books.

Her art quilts have been exhibited in Compass Bank in Crestview, Crestview Library, an Okaloosa Art Gallery, and Panama City Art Museum. One of her art quilts won a second place ribbon in a Santa Rosa Arts Association Art Show; and most recently, she entered 4 small art quilts in the Covington County Quilt Guild’s Quilt Show. And won a first and a second place ribbon. Her books have been exhibited in Crestview Library, Milton Library, at Gallery 88 at WUWF Radio in Pensacola and Panama City Library. Mary has taught classes privately; and at the Baker Block Museum, Crestview Senior Center, Milton Library, Pensacola Calligraphy Guild, Santa Rosa Art Association, at The BookArts guilds in Milton/Pensacola and The Experimental Arts Book Arts Guild in Panama City and for the Lower Alabama Arts Coalition in Andalusia.
